The sounds were okay, and the voice actors did their jobs as expected. The graphics were actually pretty good, although some areas were a little too dark for my tastes (due to the genre/theme). While there were some interesting aspects, overall it's not the kind of game I would enjoy playing. I was asked to try this game for a development job I was working on, and I was able to get my hands on it right after release. Oh, and remember to set the gamma so its REALLY dark in the game, your supposed to be walking blind if your not using the flashlight or lightstick.ĮDIT: If you ever feel like being stuck, look around an pile stuff up to get to high placesĮDIT2: <- Thats the free Penumbra they made before the commercial project, think I will check it out in the future

If you got the Overture with Humble Bundle, theres a code you can use to get the Penumbra collection for 5$ in the installer EULA. There's also Overture: Requiem, and its only has good amount of puzzle levels to work on and I am not sure if it really adds anything to the story. Its a bit short, you can play them both in two evenings, but for the nice price, awesome story, with completely new way of gameplay and for being indie game, I say its too damn good to miss out.įor extra badassery, try to sneak past all enemies and never go to combat, damn hard to pull off as there are few triggers that make the enemies come sniff around the area you are. I played trough the Overture and Black Plague and I must say I enjoyed it a lot, it keeps the tension and scariness up even tho you honestly don't see lot of monsters or scary stuff, thats pretty amazing feat if I may say.

Or atleast the first one with the monster, Overture doesn't have those. I got this game with the The Humble Indie Package, who else has this game and how far are you ahead?ītw, those screenshots are not from Penumbra: Overture, they are from Penumbra, free tech/demo game they made before Penumbra: Overture and Black Plague. These pictures i just found on Google, because for some reason all my screenshots turn black. Most of items have physics, items all around you, you can move and throw, and one way to kill monsters/animals is to throw heavy objects at them.Īs far as i know, you don't get any Guns, you do get other weapons such as Hammer and Pickaxes, some people don't like the idea of no guns in a horror game, but it really adds to the scary-ness of knowing you can just shoot a monster from a nice safe distance. The sound effect are really good and i get sketched out easily. This game is REALLY scary, though it might not look like it. The story line is good, leaving notes and letters in the game making it feel like your actually in it. It is like a horror game, you are a person trying to escape a "mine" that has been abandoned (or has it). I just got this game and i like it quite a lot. Trailer isn't that good but shows you what its like.
